Covey Habits® in Kid Friendly Language
Developed by Suzanne Roberts, Aldert Root Instructional Resource Teacher

  • Habit 1: Be Proactive® - Being proactive is the opposite of being reactive.  It means you choose your actions and take responsibility for them.  You are in control.  Being reactive means you let events and emotions take control.

  • Habit 2: Begin With the End In Mind® - Set a goal for yourself and do things that will help you reach your goal.

  • Habit 3: Put First Things First® - Say, "Yes" to the important things (those that will help you reach your goal) and "No" to the less important things.  List the things you have to do, and do the most important things first.

  • Habit 4: Think Win-Win® - It is the belief that everyone can win.  There are not winners and losers.  There are only winners.  No one gives in, but a new idea is created that makes each person happy.

  • Habit 5: Seek First to Understand and Then To be Understood® - Listen to what someone has to say before you talk.  Try to see the other person's way of thinking about something before sharing your own idea about it.

  • Habit 6: Synergize® - People work together to create a better idea than any one person could have created alone.

  • Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw® - Take care of your body, your mind, and the relationships you have with others.
